Don't want to seem too negative as there aren't many alternatives. It
sounds terrible for global warming though - there has to be a
alternative than this.
Is it just the search that takes up memory? Where's the 20-30% of the
CPU going, it can't be serving that many requests for that number of
users, or does it burn because of federation? Maybe these are answered
questions already if I just went and looked at their issue tracker...
