Hi,
This is my first time posting on this list so be gentle!
I run Debian Lenny on my VPS, and have recently added lenny-backports to my
/etc/apt/sources.list in order to get the latest version of Mercurial, as a
repository I'm working on couldn't be used by the version on Lenny. This was
a few weeks ago, and apt-get update worked fine then I think. Now I am
getting a 403 when running update:
$ sudo apt-get update

I'm getting a similar issue, but with me it's the Debian Volatile repo
(needed for things like updated ClamAV packages).
Does anyone know what is going wrong? Should I just
ignore it for now and
run upgrade?
I'm not sure, but it seems like it could be a configuration issue with the
apt cacher. I hope that Andy would pick up on this and comment, otherwise
I'll log a ticket.

the Packages.gz and .bz2 files are there and I'm not sure which end
is responsible for asking for Packages vs. Packages.gz.
I'm not sure, but it seems like it could be a

I don't think it is. Both volatile and backports changed the way
they do things recently, so I assume it's that. I haven't had time
to look into it yet.

Every time someone gets an error message from apt-get they assume
it's a problem with our apt-cacher, and it very rarely has been. :)
Perhaps it *is* this time, but the quickest way to determine that is
to make it work without using apt-cacher first. So, can someone give
that a go?
the apt-cacher is admittedly running on a VM that's still running
etch and probably could benefit from being split off to its own
up-to-date VM.
For the record, the sources.list entry that creates
the problem:
deb
http://apt-cacher.lon.bitfolk.com/debian/ftp.uk.debian.org/debian-volatile/
lenny/volatile main contrib non-free
So, if you can show me a working entry for lenny volatile that
doesn't use the apt-cacher, it'll be easier for me to work out if
the apt-cacher is at fault. You'd expect the above to be:
deb http://ftp.uk.debian.org/debian-volatile/ main contrib non-free
but as discussed, I know volatile has changed, and maybe backports
too.

FWIW I don't seem to be seeing any errors any more for either
lenny-backports nor lenny-volatile. I was before, but I didn't
change anything. I suspect I still have to alter my setup for the
changes in volatile.

If your email software doesn't have a list reply function then doing
a reply to all might be best. Although you still find people who
dislike it.
If you prefer that the list sets reply-to to itself then there is a
version of this list that does that:
