Where are

Reddit isn't chat though. 😀
Well, depends what chat means to people, IRC is line-based chat, which
isn't the chat that I grew up with on BBS systems which were character
based chat. Reddit is further on as a threaded chat, so I don't know
really, things change, and what I see at Reddit is people talking behind
somewhat anonymous handles.
I feel certain that group chat exists as a thing on
the Internet and
I suspect that amongst the general population it's Discord. I bet
it's even more popular than IRC ever was.
Are you counting the AOL chat rooms? They put a lot of users onto
DalNet, and potentially a high percentage of America's teens were on
there.
I've no idea if a similar number are using Discord, as I don't use it, I
can't estimate.
(I'm not telling anyone to use Discord)
Well, they mention Discord forums on BBC podcasts sometimes, so maybe it
does have a big crowd, I don't know as I haven't ventured into that
community. It seems too much is getting piled into web and it doesn't
feel right ploughing more content into too few sites.
If you set something up elsewhere I'd be tempted to try it.
Shame there's no internet census to answer all this!
