debian. I'll make sure I have a decent (tested) backup before I start.

I recently did a couple of etch to jessie upgrades by going
etch→squeeze→wheezy→jessie. It wasn't too difficult, you can just
keep going with the cycle of:
1. Alter /etc/apt/sources.list to name the next release
2. apt-get update
3. apt-get dist-upgrade
It tells you when you need to reboot into a newer kernel, otherwise
you can keep going.
I'll have to deal with the upgrade soon then.
When the thing you're upgrading to is no longer on the main mirrors
it becomes a bit more tricky as you have to point to
snapshot.debian.net or
archive.debian.org.
