We're planning to soon double the amount of
RAM offered for the
current price. You'll be contacted individually when this can
happen; hopefully it just happens, but if you're unlucky then you
might need to be migrated or keep the same amount of RAM for a lower
price instead. Do not panic. You can stop reading now. :)
A couple of people have asked about the progress of this, which is
fair enough as it's been over a month now. I thought I may as well
post here about it.
TL;DR version:
I hope to start doubling people's RAM in about 2 weeks.
Update:
The new hardware ("president") has been running for a few days now
and I have begun moving BitFolk infrastructure VMs on to it. The
purpose of this is to:
- Free up RAM on other servers so that fewer customers will need to
be moved in order to get their RAM upgrade; and
- Provide a final testing for the new hardware and OS themselves.
I still want to be a bit cautious about this in light of the fact
that this will be the first Debian squeeze production deployment at
BitFolk, so I would like to continue running it with only BitFolk
VMs on it for the next few days.
Therefore all being well I intend to start doing the RAM upgrades
from some time in the coming week.
Again in the interests of providing an upgrade to as many customers
as possible, I would ask (if you haven't done so already) that if
you currently have 360MiB of RAM or more *and* you're sure that you
do not require it to be doubled, please drop an email to
support(a)bitfolk.com stating:
- Your account name; and
- How much RAM you actually want to end up with.
Doing so will result in the cost of your hosting going down and
someone else receiving some RAM that they need.
Cheers,
Andy
