Hello! :)
Has anybody else on this list noticed that /etc/init.d/apache2 keeps wiping
itself? It seems to happen on Ubuntu 10.04 quite regurlarly, does anybody
know any work around apart from redownloading the file from apt and
replacing it?

Hi Daniel,
I haven't seen this behaviour on any of the 10.04 machines I'm running, fwiw.

I've never seen this either. Not on any ubuntu, nor any debian versions.
Are you sure you haven't (inadvertently) added some kind of
misconfigured (semi-)automatic housekeeping thing for /etc/ which
deletes it for you?
Otherwise I'd check with any other root-users and run rkhunter, just to
be on the safe side.

Hmmm, I believe I saw a bug report on it once.
It could be ispCP which manages apache, bind, proftpd etc. I will see if
something is going wrong in there.

That certainly sounds like a likely culprit. I don't use any kind of
control-panel myself, but I know some of them like to start/stop daemons
"Their Own Way (TM)" and go about it a bit heavy-handedly.
