Hi Andy,
I'm running Debian Lenny. (I know I should have upgraded by now!)
I have done a scan of the logs of main servers - apache, postfix, Bind,
mysql. I have looked at syslog but from when the issue arose in the morning
to when I did the destroy, there are no entries. I have just noticed,
though that before the "crash" awstats tried unsuccessfully to update log
analysis 3 or 4 times. That could be either cause or effect

what it was that was behaving so badly?
Which distro are you running?
Which files have you looked at in /var/log ?
Regards,
@ndy
