Hi all.
I've just noticed that my VPS is now showing UTC rather than BST despite
still being in the "Europe/London" zone.
The following information has been given:
Britain (UK)
Therefore TZ='Europe/London' will be used.
Local time is now: Thu Oct 22 23:56:46 UTC 2009.
Universal Time is now: Thu Oct 22 23:56:46 UTC 2009.
I did a yum update earlier today, but I see no relevant changes in the
tzdata package.
Has anyone else (running CentOS) see this?
(Yes, I know it'll all be moot in a few days :)

Odd, shouldn't it switch from BST to GMT? GMT != UTC.

Are you sure it hasn't always shown UTC? They are provisioned set
to UTC.

It showed nothing for this year (I accidently sent the details direct to
Andy)

It appears that something broke the UK zone data.
On removing and reinstalling tzdata, all is fine again.

A while before a leap second, a flag is set in the time signal that says "an
extra second is coming soon" and when it disappears, you add/remove a second
accordingly. I wonder if that happens for DST too...

A good advice is to keep your servers always in UTC. It helps avoiding
confusions in the night of the change. Any timezone transformations
should be left to output scripts.
