Hi,
is there a way to get a private, secure connection between two VPSs?
I currently use ipsec and openvpn but it does seem a bit wasteful as it
uses a ton of CPU of route traffic through.
If they both are/were on the same host, a bridge would so much more
efficient. Otherwise maybe some sort of VLAN?

Which is what I use. Light on resources and quick.
Or how about tinc or curvetun?

+1 for Wireguard. I use it to get IPV6 from BitFolk to home. Moved from
OpenVPN just under a year ago. It was easy to set up and it just works.

It indeed gives me almost 5x times the speed (with 100% CPU).
Biggest hurdle was that most of the systems weren't running the latest
debian kernel yet and thus needed update&reboot cycle before I could
backport the packages.
That was a bit of a pain.
It seems to works well now and is refreshingly "light-weight" in its
configuration. not much bloat at all.
