Hi All,
As part of a test to see if Bitfolk can run an MC server, I now have a
Bitfolk Minecraft VPS. Feel free to login and let me know about any
issues you have, spread it around to friends and family as well and we
will see how many people we can fit without terrible lag getting us
all :)
I'm going to give you a server domain just in case the IP changes (the
test is only until Jan, but I might decide to continue the server if
it's popular)
Without further ado, the server address is: minecraft.monotoko.co.uk
(or 212.13.194.220 if the domain doesn't work), it is on creative mode
at the moment and I will switch it to survival at a later date :)

1.9pre2 is available, it's probably on 1.8?

It's because it's pre-release... wasn't sure whether to run that one
or not? I went for the stable 1.8.1 on the site, I don't think there
is a server version for the prerelease yet?

Aye, but I have about 5 players on here who haven't yet upgraded...
will it kick up an error if they try to connect with 1.8.1?

I just want to point out at this stage that Daniel is investigating
what can be done with a given amount of resources, so I do expect
him to hit performance problems and for it to end up being unusable.
If you could let him know directly when this happens that would be
useful.
It's so that we can give a more meaningful answer next time someone
asks if you can run a Minecraft server on a BitFolk VPS.

I seem to be able to connect fine and play around.
I'm not quite up on multiplayer minecraft etiquette - do I just pick a quiet looking
area and move myself in?

Hi Michael,
That's the plan for now :) You should be dropped into a village upon
spawn, I shall be moving to the server into survival mode and
switching monsters on at some point within the next few days, so make
sure your house is monster proof ;)
