When I first setup my VPS I installed apache because at the time I
didn't know about alternatives but am now thing about switching to
nginx. Not that I have had any problems with apache but nginx
apparently isn't as memory hungry.
I have very basic needs. I have only a few websites to serve and
apart from one that uses gallery2 the content is all static html.
I don't remember if I had to enable any thing in apache2 to be able to
use gallery2 but it looks like I'd need to do something with rewrite
rules to use it with nginx
Has anyone switched from apache2 to nginx and are there any 'gotchas' to
be aware of.

* no .htaccess (so read through them all when installing any CMS and
move their rules to the domain config file)
* different rewrite system (but there are converters online)
* uses cgi (I recommend php-fpm)
* careful with timeouts when setting up CGI, also test with high load
(dreaded gateway timeout errors)
* no mod_security (though i didn't search for it much yet)

I run drupal, joomla, wordpress on nginx + php-fpm cgi with no problems,
just need some extra config for each (mostly for SEO-safe urls).
