I'm trying to configure ipv6 on my VPS, mainly as

autoconfigure through router advertisement, however my VPS isn't

This will almost certainly be due to either autoconfig being
disabled on the host server or you not yet being assigned an IPv6
prefix.
A couple of older servers have autoconfig disabled because
it was causing some issues.
Some of the oldest customers also were never assigned an IPv6
prefix, unlike everyone else who got one on VPS setup.
When I'm back on a computer instead of a phone I'll see which is the
case for you and get back to you.
Cheers,
Andy
