I know what you are saying. The point is that I was quietly thinking, I
have a second VPS with apache etc installed and doing nothing but hosting
low usage webmail. £120 a year, for very little effort would mean a near
free VPS for me. LOL. I could also offer to host the DNS and give email.

WOW! he has 3 sites between them I don't know what data
use or disk space,
but he would be better off getting a VPS, finding someone kind to set it up
for him with everything on auto update etc. Backing up is so simple, don't
need any of the fancy software just a cron job backing up the database and
making a tar.gz backup of the files.. back up and restore in an instant. I
have found it the easiest and quickest way. I have moved Joomla sites
between servers so easily doing that. Again stuff like ZBBlock, fail2ban
and so on gives security equal to WP. I reckon.
And that's the point surely - are you volunteering to be that kind
person to do it all for him? :) Sometimes simple dedicated hosting
really is the best way forward.
