We experience similar problems at Cernio Tech Co-op. Whatever slack
is broadly offered is taken (and then some) at least half of the
time. That's logical, I suppose, but doesn't encourage offering any
more slack than is absolutely necessary. This, more than anything,
drives the formation and enforcement of seemingly-strict billing
policies and procedures.
Like Andy, I'm quite happy to work out a mutually agreeable custom
deal when asked, but communication is requisite. And, like Andy,
it's especially frustrating to me to have to deal with non-
communicating non-payers when we're at capacity with a waiting list of
eager would-be customers.
I think issuing invoices further in advance and having less leeway
after the due date both make sense. Also, do I understand correctly
that Bitfolk currently provisions VPSes before receiving payment?
That surprises me - seems that it's only fair (and industry standard)
to require at least one month's payment prior to provisioning. Doing
so would cut down on the spam-and-run "customers", too.
