I have no idea whatsoever, but I wonder what your kernel boot
parameters are? My (lenny) VM has clocksource=jiffies - maybe this
has something to do with it?
A quick Google search says that at least one person somewhere reported
Good Things happening after this.
Maybe this wasn't the default for Etch VMs and wasn't migrated?
