I used mutt via an ssh tunnel for personal mail for about 10 years.
Nowadays I still use it on various servers to read mail, especially when
I'm away from my mac (it's all imap). It's much faster on a slow
connection, e.g 3G on a tablet/cellphone, as you don't have to download
all the crud (even if just the headers) to read 1 important message.
