Hello,
Anyone got any experience integrating with a payment service
provider basically from scratch? i.e. to take credit/debit card
payments directly from the web site.
Protx[1] looks good, but requires a merchant account and Bitfolk does
not have one. Bitfolk's bank, Abbey, is not one of the ones listed
and after having a look through the sites of the ones that are,
getting an account seems costly and painful.
The way I understand it is that you will have to have at least a merchant
number (apparently it's a seperate issue to having a merchant account) for
most of the payment clearance systems to work, so you won't be able to
dodge that specific issue for much longer. In this case I would suggest
that you shop around for the most competitive merchant account package.
Even if you like Abbey, don't let feelings of loyalty hamstring you in
looking around for good pricing, all banks are more than willing to talk
business with a business. :-) Practise your haggling a bit.
I recently bought something through the Linux Emporium, and they use
Protx. It's a bit invasive (in terms of "verbosity") in the buying
process, but it works well. You might be able to get some info from them.
Speaking for myself, I really do not mind the Paypal/Google or direct
transfer methods as things currently stands, and I am quite sure that most
Bitfolkers would echo this feeling. Why change?
