It may well be the case that if he doesn't want to use Joomla then
he will need to find a new person to do it for him.
Having to find a new designer that he can work with is quite a
barrier for a non-technical person to scale, and it may also involve
him having to argue why Joomla isn't suitable, from a position of
him not actually knowing what Joomla is.
As such it may be too difficult for him to do this any other way.
I will point out Joomla's shortcomings and if necessary volunteer to
discuss that with his designer, but there is a limit as to how far I
want to get involved.

These sites shouldn't need any third party
plugins and to be
honest if it wasn't for the fact that he'd have no idea how to
later edit or add pages, they could be static HTML.
In that case, I am really wondering why he's using Joomla. Is it that
there's a theme he likes or has someone told him people will laugh if
he uses anything else?
