My VPS only seems to have 1 CPU. Is this normal?
Yes, this is normal. All BitFolk VPSes are currently limited to 1
CPU core. This has always been the case.
In theory this should not matter much as the average CPU usage of a
BitFolk VPS at the moment is around 0.3 percent of a CPU core. If
your VPS was continually using even 80% of a core constantly then
this would most likely indicate some software that is broken.
However, I do recognise that it might be nice to burst to more
cores, or have the possibility of multiple threads of execution
without necessarily being forced to have a context switch inside the
hypervisor.
I am deploying some new hardware in July and as part of that process
I will be investigating increasing the number of cores per VPS.
However I can not guarantee that the base VPS spec will come with
more than 1 core, nor that additional cores will be something that
one could purchase: I am not keen on adding yet another combination
of specifications, and am therefore more likely to scale cores with
amount of memory.
Cheers,
Andy
