This couldn’t be anything to do with systemd + keepalived, could it? Somebody on Andrews
& Arnold IRC has just written
——————
GAH - Systemd + Keepalived is "dangerous"
I've just experienced systemd removing IP addresses underneath keepalived
which older versions of keepalive have no idea on!
This leads to Keepalived saying "I'm master and all is OK" when checking
"ip addr" says a very different story :/
This only seems to be an issue on Ubuntu though
machines with Debian seem to not have this problem

Apologies if I’m way off the mark (and for the formatting)!

HI all,
I have just upgraded from 16.04 to 18.04 and appear to have the same problem. basic
connectivity, but DNS fails.
Restarting networking makes DNS work, but after a reboot it fails again.
I'm running this machine under vbox, so it clearly is a Ubuntu problem.
I have also installed a fresh copy of 18.04 and that does NOT have the problem.

Ian

I agree, I'm going to back off and try to

Is there are reference for what the settings _should_ be? (default gw,
dns etc)
Hmm, not really. You can piece it together from various pages on the
panel but perhaps a summary would be a good thing for us to add to
https://panel.bitfolk.com/account/config/ ?
In your case:
IPv4:
Address: 85.119.83.128
Netmask: 255.255.248.0
Gateway: 85.119.80.1
IPv6:
Address: 2001:ba8:1f1:f1e5::2
Netmask: 64
Gateway: 2001:ba8:1f1:f1e5::1
DNS:
85.119.80.232
85.119.80.233
2001:ba8:1f1:f205::53
2001:ba8:1f1:f206::53
Cheers,
Andy
