Scientific Linux user here :) Just one thing that I noticed about the
support article for CentOS/SL - it mentions that the GATEWAY parameter
is in /etc/sysconfig/network when, in fact, it was in ifcfg-eth0.
I wasn't sure whether the ifcfg-eth0:1 that I created would pick it up,
so I moved it to /etc/sysconfig/network just to make sure.
All works fine and I'm now on the new IP address with the old as a
secondary on eth0.
