Or someone forwarded an email to someone with a compromised computer.

Once you start actively using an email address - whether it is tagged or
not - it is "out there" and you have no control over what happens to it.
And if you send it to a large number of people - via a mailing list like
this - you don't even be able to tell who leaked it, either deliberately
or accidentally.
