Yes, this. I tried getting a cert for z.gg with StartSSL as a test
before going for a paid service for work. This was the response, from
the founder of the company, about why they don't do support short
domains:

Based on that, I decided that they had fallen at the first hurdle and
went with a Comodo PositiveSSL wildcard for work.
