It's easy enough to do this, if you install postfix then the
post-installation steps are trivial, but alternatively I'd suggest
looking at something like Sendgrid

Essentially they run an smtp gateway with a nice web interface over
the top for you to track things like failures, unsubscribe requests,
etc, and they try hard not to get your mail flagged as spam.
The offer a free service for up to 200 emails per day - scroll down
below the big highlighted sections on their pricing page and look for
the link with this text:
"We also offer a Free Plan with 200 Email Credits per day."
