Actually I think it does, at least in part.
I've just reproduced the problem, from a Gnome terminal so my original
suspicion of it being Putty-related was a red herring, and having moved
around a text file in emacs some lines were being displayed in the wrong
place and it was getting progressively harder to work out where the hell =
I
was.
So, I tried a CTRL-L and it redrew everything correctly however I was
still getting some problems with the cursor position towards the bottom o=
f
the screen. In particular, when continuing to hit the down arrow at the
bottom of the visible screen area the emacs line counter was still
incrementing for a few steps before the screen started scrolling. So, I
increased the height of my terminal window, hit CTRL-L again, and all
seemed again to be fine.
I note that whilst in the Xen console there are at least a couple of line=
s
taken up by it (i.e. the bar across the bottom with 'Xen Console' written
in it and current time) and I'm wondering if the problem I'm getting is
caused by the apparent mismatch in terminal height caused by these
'reserved' lines. Certainly with the window height increased (by that I
mean just dragging the window taller) I can't seem to reproduce the
problem (and hence no need for a
