£6 a month, = £72 a year, the other one £10 per month = £120 a year  WOW! he has 3 sites between them I don't know what data use or disk space, but he would be better off getting a VPS, finding someone kind to set it up for him with everything on auto update etc. Backing up is so simple, don't need any of the fancy software just a cron job backing up the database and making a tar.gz backup of the files.. back up and restore in an instant. I have found it the easiest and quickest way. I have moved Joomla sites between servers so easily doing that. Again stuff like ZBBlock, fail2ban and so on gives security equal to WP. I reckon.

These sites shouldn't need any third party plugins and to be honest
if it wasn't for the fact that he'd have no idea how to later edit or
add pages, they could be static HTML.

Most appealing I have found so far is:

    http://www.rochenhost.co.uk/joomla-hosting

which although doesn't keep the Joomla core up to date for you, does
at least purport to have "one click upgrade", so if I drum it into
him not to use third party plugins and to hit the upgrade button
every time it is available, he may be okay…

Cheers,
Andy
