best I can think of at the minute is that the iptables config has been changed (though this is not something I've ever made changes to!)

# iptables -n -L
Chain INPUT (policy ACCEPT)

Chain FORWARD (policy ACCEPT)

Chain OUTPUT (policy ACCEPT)
target     prot opt source               destination
