As a non user I’m not sure how much right I have to comment but here we go...
For an individual I think a default of 1 extra months payment as a cap by default probably strikes the right balance, with it being an explicit opt out / configurable higher.
For businesses I’d think it should be opt in.

I prefer a multiplier of monthly service charge.
Maybe go from +1x to +6x, customer decides, default +1x.
