There are no longer i386 kernel packages or installer in testing/sid.
Debian 13 will not ship with an i386 installer or kernel. i386 binaries
will continue to work but will need to be run under an amd64 kernel on
any new release.

Yes, I should have been more precise. 

Binaries yes - I suspect they saw what happened when Ubuntu proposed dropping all of those and people pointed out that quite a lot of users still need some to use Steam / WINE if nothing else - but that will be useless for the 32-bit only Atom-based netbooks without the kernel.
